Silves Medieval Fair

Instead of the crowd filled annual Silves Medieval Festival, this year will be slightly different. From July 30th to August 22nd, Silves will host the Silves Medieval event. During which the city is dressed in the colours and decorations of yesteryear, the streets of the historic centre will be decked out and the medieval sounds and displays will create a unique atmosphere.

Scenarios with themes of History, Al-Andalus Nights, a Medieval Tournament, concerts in the Castle and Medieval Palates will be some of the highlights. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Silves, complies with the recommendations of the DGS and aims to support and improve the economic fabric of the municipality, at this particularly difficult time that commerce, restaurants and hotels are going through.

There will be 24 days, during which Silves Medieval will present a variety of entertainments, one for each night of the event. The castle of Silves will open its doors for four concerts taking place on the 30th of July, with Al-Folk and Arakisati; July 31, with the Arabians; August 1st, with Alhambra and Emad Selim; and August 2, with the Albaluna. The tickets for each concert are 3 euros.

The Praça al-Muthamid will bring the well-known medieval tournaments back to the city between the 3rd and 12th of August, with a single daily session, and at the Castle of Silves, Nights of Al-Andalus will be held, with the Wayam Ensemble, August 13-22. Tickets for each of these cost of 5 euros.

All shows (concerts, Al-Andalus Nights and Medieval Tournament) will start at 9 pm and comply with DGS rules and guidelines.

Tickets will be on sale at BOL (at https://cmsilves.bol.pt/) and at the usual places (FNAC, Worten, CTT, EI Corte Inglês and Youth Hostels). Tickets will also be sold ‘at the door’ from 7pm, if places are available.

The Medieval Paladares, a gastronomic event between July 30 and August 22, with the participation of more than three dozen participating restaurants , will include a medieval dish (which could be a snack, a tapa, a dessert or a complete meal); the perfect opportunity to enjoy a good wine from Silves, in a medieval environment. In the area surrounding the participating establishments there will be street entertainment, daily, from 18:30.

Silves offers 24 days in a unique environment, with Scenarios will take place in the al-andalus courtyard located in front of the Câmara building, in the mosque next to the turret or in the monumental portico located on Rua 5 de Outubro, with the backdrop of the city of Silves and some of its most emblematic monuments, including its majestic Castle.

The Municipality of Silves invites everyone to visit and experience this unique environment, as part of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis project.
